Fine KPM Berlin Vase

 

so called „Redensche-Vase“ or “Medici-Vase”

Round foot over a square base. The body with two handles. Parts of the base, the foot and the body decorated with a lapis lazuli fond.

On the foot in an oval cartouche the portrait of the Frederick the Great, King of Prussia, after a painting by Antoine Pesne. At the reverse of the foot the initials and the royal crown of Frederick the Great.

To the sides of the foot as well as to the front and reverse of the lower part of the body, mythological sceneries with Galatea, Aphrodite and several putti, after masterworks of the French school of the 17th century, executed in rosé-brown grisaille decoration.

The upper body with two cartouches, decorated with classical mythological scenes in the manner of the French masterworks of the 17th century, executed in brown grisaille decoration.

Gold rims and borders.
