Large Meissen Ewer emblematic the element “Air”

Of baluster form, over a round foot, large spout and a large handle in form of a cloud-ribbon.

The ewer carries air and heaven motifs, that include Juno, the goddess of the air, sitting on a cloud above a peacock. On the top of the handle, two floating putti, playing a bagpipe. The spirally moulded foot decorated with coloured feathers and a floating putto.

Very rich and fine polychrome decoration with gold.

 

The ewer “Air” belongs to a set of four element ewers “Fire”, “Water”, “Earth” and “Air”, as well as a Royal centrepiece vase, with its allegorical – mythological representation, initial designed as a present for the French King Louis XV.
