Large Meissen Ewer emblematic the element “Water”

 

The Elementewer “Water” belongs to a set of four Elementewers “Fire”, “Water”, “Earth” and “Air”, with its allegorical-mythological representation, initial designed as a present for the King of France.

The ewer carries marine motifs that include Neptune in a chariot drawn by sea horses, a nereid, dolphins embellishing the food a putto on top of the handle in form of sea grass and a low-relief scene of boats at sea.

All over fine polychrome decoration.
